Air pollution caused by vehicles is harmful to those who live, work and study in our city. Birmingham has committed to making way for a better quality of air for our younger generations.
In 2021, the most polluting vehicles passing through Birmingham city centre will have to pay a daily charge. This includes buses, lorries, cars, vans, taxis and coaches unless they are exempt.
With a growing population, new buildings, expanding metro and rail systems and the return of large events like the Commonwealth Games, more and more people will have the pleasure of exploring our beautiful city without having to compromise their health due to poor air quality.
Although the worst-offending vehicles can still pass through the city, they are very much deterred by the cost they will incur. This will help reduce NO2 levels in the air to a maximum average of 40μg/m3.
You can see the exact areas the Clean Air Zone covers on the Birmingham Government website, and you can see how much offending vehicles will be charged on brumbreathes.co.uk.
When you visit us at the eastside rooms, you can rest assured our central location means the quality of our air is being worked on constantly to help better protect our visitors.
